CourseKata Accessibility Statement

LAST UPDATED June 30, 2023

Accessibility

We want everyone who uses the CourseKata textbook to feel welcome and find the experience rewarding, going above and beyond the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act regulations.

CourseKata is committed to providing accessibility to users. We continually use design standards that help assisted technology users identify, interpret, understand and interact with information presented on our web site.

Software Standards

We make every effort to meet the current online usability and design requirements recommended by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in its Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 AA.). We follow W3C's globally recognized standards to provide content that is compatible with computer-based assistive technologies and browsers. We recommend users use the most current versions of assistive technology applications, along with current versions of browsers. We also recommend trying different types of browsers with assistive technology applications to determine which combination works best for you.

For more information about how we assess our software’s accessibility, please see our Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT).

We do not provide assistive technology applications or browsers. Please visit the individual manufacturer's or developer’s site for information about how to obtain them. You may also have access to assistance from local and state agencies or non-profit groups in your area.

Third Party Websites

Throughout this website, we make use and link to different third-party websites and services. These include but are not limited to, social media sites such Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Vimeo, Facebook, and information resources. Please be aware that these sites, which are not controlled by this site, may present challenges for individuals with disabilities that we are not able to control or remedy.

Ongoing Efforts to Ensure Accessible Content

CourseKata uses the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 as its guiding principle. As we develop new pages and functionality, the principles of accessible design and development are an integral part of conception and realization.

We continually test content and features for WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance and remediate any issues to ensure we meet or exceed the standards. Testing of our digital content is performed by our accessibility experts using automated testing, screen readers, a color contrast analyzer, keyboard-only navigation techniques, and a variety of bookmarklets.

Summary of Accessibility Features

  • Navigational aids are provided on all pages. Skip navigation links have been incorporated to facilitate keyboard navigation and to bypass groups of links on a page and jump directly to main content

  • The title attribute has been used to make linked text more meaningful or to indicate if the link opens a new browser window

  • Structural markup to indicate headings and lists has been provided to aid in page comprehension

  • Forms are associated with labels and instructions on filling in forms are available to screen reader users

  • Hierarchical structure of the page is defined properly.
